I visited Winnie’s science class on November 10, 2011. Her seventh graders were collaborating the following way. The girls were working in groups from 2-5 students. Each group had a separate set of questions to answer about the topic “atmosphere.” The questions were answered using concept maps – visual illustrations of the ideas and explanations.The activity was used as a review of their material on the topic. Each group presented their concept map to the rest of the class. It was interesting to learn about a topic totally out of my “sphere” of knowledge and to learn from the students.
